Purple Eyelids Six Months After Blepharoplasty? Bruised eyelids

There’s a great discussion going on ove in the Eyelid Surgery Question and Answer section at realself. This is about a patient that has had six months to heal after a lower Blepharoplasty, but the eyelids are still purple. Several M.D.’s weigh in to give their expert opinion.

Generally blue or purple eyelids are the result of bruising and slight trauma that happens during surgery. As with most surgeries, some bruising is expected and will happen for a few days up to a few weeks. In this case, the patient seems to have the bruising symptoms for over six months after surgery.

6 months after upper and lower Blepharoplasty (second time – first time was 23 years ago) my eyelids are still purple and I have to use heavy makeup to conceal. My surgeon says he has never seen this reaction before.
